Explore the best of Israel and Jordan on a week-long trip to spectacular archaeological sites and towns. On Day 1, transfer from the airport to Jerusalem. On Day 2, take a tour through Jerusalem’s intriguing Old City. Day 3 brings you to Masada, Ein Gedi National Park and the Dead Sea. Visit historic Mount of Olives on Day 4, then embark on an expedition to Jordan on Days 5-6 to visit the breathtaking sites of Jerash, Amman and Petra. Sleep in a Bedouin desert campsite and take in the immensity and grandeur of this beautiful region before your trip ends back in Jerusalem on Day 7.
Day to Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Tel Aviv Airport Pick-Up
Today you will be picked up upon arrival to the airport in Tel Aviv and transferred to Jerusalem. Get settled in to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day to explore the city on your own.
Day 2: Jerusalem Holy City Tour (B)
We will begin our Old City tour today at the Jaffa Gate of Jerusalem’s old city, where we will go back in time by walking along the stone streets of this rich historical city. Learn about the 5,000-year-old history of Jerusalem and experience the different quarters that are home to Christians, Jews and Muslims all living inside a fascinating 1 sq km walled city. See the most important holy sites for all three religions: the Western Wall and King David’s Tomb for the Jews, the Dome of the Rock where Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven and the exquisite Al Aqsa Mosque for the Muslims, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the room of the last supper and the Via Dolorosa where Jesus walked bearing his cross before he was crucified. Listen to biblical stories and learn about the rich history of Jerusalem as you walk the streets of this amazing city and stand on the very spots where they took place. Come with an open mind to truly experience this incredible city and its inhabitants. Return back to your accommodation to rest up after a long day of walking.
Day 3: Masada, Ein Gedi & Dead Sea Day Trip (B)
Depart Jerusalem today around 7:00 am and travel south towards the Dead Sea and the Masada Fortress located in the vast and beautiful Judean Desert. Hike to the top of the fortress or buy a ticket for the cable car where you can awe at the miraculous views over the Dead Sea and surrounding mountains. The fascinating ruins at Masada are the site of a great story of Jewish heroism and the site is one of the most important archaeological ruins in the country. Walk among the ancient archaeological ruins and imagine what life here was like thousands of years ago.
Continue your trip to the nearby Ein Gedi Nature Reserve for a spectacular walk to refreshing spring-fed waterfalls and swimming holes. Take a moment to relax and cool off in the falls. Hop back in the bus and continue your trip to the Dead Sea where you will have the chance to float in the salty waters, creating the illusion that you are floating on top of the water. Give yourself a mud-bath exfoliation with therapeutic mud and take photos of this incredible experience. After your time here, you will head back to Jerusalem arriving in the early evening. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 4: Mount of Olives Day Trip (B)
Today you will take a short afternoon trip starting at 2:00pm from the Jaffa Gate to the Mount of Olives, with important spiritual, religious and historical significance. For thousands of years the Mount of Olives has witnessed the events that took place in the city of Jerusalem. The mount became an important pilgrimage site for the Jews after the destruction of the First Temple and is the World’s oldest Jewish burial ground. We will visit the cemetery to see the thousands of graves dating from 2000 BC. The Mount of Olives is also known as the place where Jesus spent his last week on Earth and for the Christians it is the place where the Gates of Heaven will open on Judgement Day. You will also have the chance to visit the Mosque of Ascension among many ancient churches and Mary’s Tomb. The tour will end at 5:30 pm and afterwards you can feel free to enjoy the evening by walking to the Old City and the Lion’s Gate or taking a bus to the Western Wall after a spectacular afternoon of incredible views, interesting history, olive trees and fresh air! Return to your accommodation on your own.
Day 5: Jerusalem - Jerash - Amman - Bedouin Camp (B/L/D)
On day 1, we will get an early start and leave Jerusalem at 7:00am as we embark on our exciting 3-day adventure to incredible archaeological sites and natural wonders. We will cross the border into Jordan at the northern Sheikh Hussein border crossing and then make our way towards Jerash, an ancient Roman city. Step back in time as you enter the archaeological site of Jerash located on a hill in the middle of the modern city with a well-preserved Hadrian’s Arch, Zeus and Artemis Temples, cardo, hippodrome and oval forum. Your guide will explain the intricacies of this intriguing ancient city created with a combination of Western and Eastern architecture over 4000 years old.
After our visit we will have a delicious traditional lunch at a local restaurant and then continue our trip to the Amman Citadel in the modern capital of Jordan. Similar to Jerash, the Citadel is perched on a hilltop in the middle of the city affording you with panoramic views in all directions, a unique experience! Learn about the strategic cultural and military importance of the citadel and understand why this city is one of the longest-inhabited places on the planet.
From Amman, we will continue our drive south to the Bedouin camp near Petra where we will arrive in time for a fulfilling dinner. Have fun talking with friends at the campfire watching the starry desert sky and listening to local music, then rest up for the night in your cozy tent and warm bed for a big day ahead!
Day 6: Petra - Jerusalem (B/L)
Get off to an early start on day 2 at 7:00am, have breakfast and then hop back on the bus en route to the nearby archaeological site and a new seventh wonder of the world, Petra. This marvelous Nabataean city dates from 300 BC and is famous for its rock-cut architecture and intricately carved church facades nestled away deep in the Jordanian desert. The entire city was carved into the sandstone cliffs with a dramatic rose-coloured hue. Enjoy the entire morning to explore the city with your guide or walk around on your own. Have lunch on site at the entrance gate and then board the bus again for your return trip to Jerusalem via the Allenby Bridge border crossing. Here you will complete border crossing formalities and change vehicles before making the return trip to Jerusalem arriving in the late evening depending on traffic and border crossing delays.
Day 8: Jerusalem Accommodation Check-Out (B)
Today your trip will come to an end with great memories of an unforgettable experience in the fascinating country of Israel as you check-out of your accommodation. We wish you safe travels onwards!
